In 2002, Newsweb under license from the Channel 20 TV Company purchased KTVS from its then-owner Benedek Broadcasting. Then, KTVS was renamed to KUPN and became a satellite station to its UPN affiliate, KTVD. CBS (which KTVS was formerly affiliated alongside its then-sister stations) would give exclusivity rights to CBS programming in Sterling to its Denver O&O, KCNC-TV (which CBS purchased (alongside Salt Lake City station KUTV) in 1995 from NBC)
