The station signed on August 3, 2000 as KBEJ taking the UPN affiliation from NBC-affiliated KMOL-TV (channel 4, now WOAI-TV) and was owned by Corridor Television. Corridor contracted A. H. Belo then-owners of CBS affiliate KENS-TV (channel 5) to operate channel 2.

2006–2008[]
In 2006, KBEJ was selected as an affiliate of The CW for the San Anontonio market. The station changed its callsigns on April 7 of that same year to KCWX in anticipation of the CW's launch.
2008–2010[]
2010–2012[]
In 2010, the station became the area's affiliate for MyNetworkTV after its charter San Antonio affiliate, KMYS (channel 35) took over The CW.
