KLEW-TV first signed on December 7, 1955 as a satellite of KIMA-TV, and it was originally owned by the Cascade Broadcasting Company.

Filmways agreed to purchase Cascade Broadcasting for $3 million in 1968, and the sale was approved the following year, only for them to sell channel 29 and its satellite stations to NWG Broadcasting for $1 million in 1972.
