In the early 1960s, KOAA-TV took much of its programming from sister KOA-TV (channel 4; now CBS Owned-and-operated station KCNC-TV) in Denver and used a similar logo, but remained a free-standing station programmed separately. However, KOA-TV and KOAA-TV occasionally would do cross-promotion between them.

The station's coverage area had to be conformed to protect KFBC-TV/KYCU-TV (now KGWN-TV) in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Due to this, KOAA-TV had trouble in some parts of Colorado Springs. As a result, in 1980, the station signed on K30AA, a high-powered translator, and adopted the 5/30 branding.

In 2009, the station dropped the 5/30 branding due to the analog-to-digital conversion.
On April 15, 2010, K30AA was converted from analog to digital and continues to operate as a repeater of KOAA-TV. On June 14, K30AA changed its calls to K30JM-D.
