When KOKH converted into a commercial independent station on October 1, 1979, the station began offering limited news programming in the form of 30-second-long hourly newsbriefs (known as Newstouch 25) that aired during the commercial breaks of daytime and evening programs. In September 1980, two-minute-long weather updates (titled Weathertouch 25) also aired on the half-hour throughout the broadcast day.
1980–1982[]
1982–1988[]
1988–1991[]
As a consequence of Heritage Media's purchase of KOKH and transfer of the Fox affiliation and other assets from KAUT (which Heritage donated to the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority in order to acquire Channel 25), KOKH discontinued its news updates and public affairs programming in late July 1991, at the decision of then-president and general manager Harlan Reams, who felt that a fourth news operation could not compete against the established news departments of the local Big Three affiliates KFOR-TV, KOCO-TV and KWTV (a stance he held while running KAUT).
The Nine O'Clock News[]
1996–1997[]
Five years after it ended regular news updates after being acquired by Heritage, KOKH launched its current news department on May 27, 1996, with the premiere of The Nine O'Clock News, the first prime time newscast ever attempted on Oklahoma television. Originally running a half-hour on weeknights, the newscast was expanded to one hour on August 4, 1997. Weekend editions of The Nine O'Clock News were added in the Fall of 1999: the Sunday edition debuted on September 12, and the Saturday edition debuted three weeks later on October 2.

KOKH began airing national segments and hubbed weather reports produced out of parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Hunt Valley, Maryland headquarters as part of the company’s News Central concept in January 2003, expanding them to include daily weather and sports segments on March 31 of that year. KOKH continued to maintain anchors, reporters and other news production staff based out of its Wilshire Boulevard studios to produce local news segments; it would transfer weather and sports production back to Oklahoma City after Sinclair shuttered News Central on March 31, 2006. During this time, the station added a half-hour weeknight 10:00 p.m. newscast on February 2, 2004.

News programming on KOKH gradually expanded beginning with the April 9, 2007, launch of the three-hour-long Fox 25 Morning News (since retitled Good Day Oklahoma and expanded to four hours). An hour-long weeknight 5:00 newscast was added on September 1, 2014, followed by the addition of an hour-long 11:00 a.m. newscast on March 7, 2016.

2019–present[]
On November 9, 2023, Sinclair announced that it would transfer news operations of Tulsa sister station KTUL to KOKH’s Oklahoma City studios, with KTUL retaining some weather, sports and reporting staff in Tulsa. As a result, on December 11, KTUL began simulcasting KOKH’s morning (5:00–7:00 a.m.), midday and 5:00 p.m. newscasts, with Tulsa-focused weather segments replacing those intended for viewers in the Oklahoma City market; however, KTUL continued to produce standalone evening newscasts, with anchors based out of KOKH’s studios.
