KOVR switched from ABC to CBS in 1995. This logo was similar to that of then-sister station, WGME-TV in Portland, Maine.

In December 2004, Viacom, then the owner of CBS, agreed to acquire KOVR from Sinclair Broadcast Group for $285 million. The deal was completed on April 29, 2005. This gave Viacom a duopoly in Sacramento, where it already had UPN owned-and-operated station KMAX-TV. The station subsequently changed its name to CBS 13; the new logo also coincidentally resembles the 2006 logo of former sister station WGME.
