Channel 69 in San Diego began broadcasting on September 30, 1984 as an independent station known as KTTY. The station was originally owned by San Diego Television.
1989–1995[]
On February 2, 1994, San Diego Television filed for bankruptcy. During January of 1995, channel 69 became a WB affiliate.
1995–1996[]
At that time, KTTY was located on channel 14 on cable providers on the area. On April 19, 1996, Tribune Broadcasting assumed control of channel 69 after a bidding war with United Television.
KSWB-TV[]
1996–2006[]
On September of that same year, channel 69 was renamed to the current KSWB callsigns. Tribune moved KSWB's cable channel number to channel 5 and displaced Los Angeles sister station KTLA from cable providers in that area.
2006–2008[]
KSWB was selected as the CW affiliate for the San Diego area in 2006.

2008–present[]
On August 1, 2008, KSWB-TV swapped network affiliations with Tijuana-based XETV (channel 6) as a result of an affiliation agreement signed earlier that year between Tribune Broadcasting and Fox; on that date, KSWB-TV became a Fox affiliate, while XETV took over the CW affiliation for the San Diego-Tijuana market.
