The channel originally signed on the air as KIDO-TV on July 12, 1953, and was originally owned by Georgia Davidson, who owned KIDO-AM.

1959–1962[]

In 1959, Davidson sold KIDO radio and changed the TV station call letters to KTVB.

1978–1997[]

KTVB - 1978

KTVB was sold to the King Broadcasting Company in 1979, becoming a sister station to KREM in Spokane, KGW-TV in Portland, and flagship station KING-TV in Seattle. The Bullitts sold their broadcasting assets to the Providence Journal Company in 1992, and was later acquired by Belo in 1997.
