1958–1963

KTVU originally signed on the air on March 3, 1958, as an independent station.

1963–1967

The logo was introduced when KTVU was sold to Cox Enterprises.

1967–1975

This logo looks similar to the BBC2 logo from 1967, minus the dot.

1975–present

Since its first use in 1975, this logo has been affectionately known as "Circle Laser 2"; the nickname is derived from the "Laser II" spaceship featured on Captain Satellite, KTVU's afternoon children's program that ran in the 1960s.

1975-2001

The original version of the "Circle Laser 2" logo was slightly thicker than the one currently in use. It was phased out with the introduction of the next logo in April 1997 in general use, but its early morning newscast Mornings on 2 continued to use this for its opening and closing sequences until March 2001.

1990–1996

1992–1996

On October 6, 1986, KTVU officially joined Fox as one of its charter affiliates, although the "Circle Laser 2" logo continued to be in use. They began to incorporate the 1987 Fox logo near their logo during prime-time programming in 1990. It initially used the indigo variant of their logo until September 1992, when it was changed to entirely yellow, used in tandem until 1993. This version and the one that followed were only used during Fox network promotions, mainly those airing during local commercial breaks on the station.

1996–1997

After Fox tightened branding standardization for its affiliates, KTVU obliged by amending its on-air branding to "Fox Channel 2" (though it sometimes continued to be mentioned as simply "Channel 2") in September 1996. The alternate logo used in station-amended promotions for Fox network programs and promos for other entertainment programming seen on KTVU was consequently updated to incorporate the 1996 searchlight-and-wordmark-only version of the Fox logo.

1997–2015

In April 1997, KTVU modified its branding by inserting the Fox wordmark to the "Circle Laser 2" logo. The abbreviated "Fox 2" brand was used obliquely in promotions for KTVU's news programming, with the station employing KTVU Channel 2 News or similar variations on a formal basis. It continued to be in use after Fox Television Stations traded WFXT and WHBQ-TV to Cox Media Group for KTVU and KICU until February 2, 2015.

2015–present

January 9, 2015–May 2017 (primary), May 2017–January 22, 2020 (secondary)

After its 2014 acquisition by Fox Television Stations, the Fox portion of KTVU's branding gained more prominence by January 9, 2015, with the network logo appearing side-by-side with KTVU's longtime "Circle Laser 2." However, the previous logo continued to be used until the next logo debuted.

February 2–August 2015

In January 2015, KTVU also integrated the "Circle Laser 2" logo into the Fox News Channel-inspired Fox O&O logo as part of its adoption of the branding standardization of new owner Fox Television Stations, which acquired KTVU and KICU the previous year, through a trade deal with WHBQ-TV in Memphis and WFXT in Boston with former longtime owner Cox Media Group. This logo branding, currently in use by most of the Fox O&Os, is based on the Fox News logo; with their website names ("myfox(city name).com") based on the domain for the social network Myspace, which former Fox parent News Corporation briefly owned. This logo is no longer in use since KTVU de-emphasized the use of standardized graphics since then.

January 22, 2020–present

The Fox wordmark received a slight tweak after KTVU introduced its new graphics (which first appeared on sister stations KSAZ-TV in Phoenix and WTVT in Tampa in 2019) on January 22, 2020.
