KTXA 1980

Originally signed on the air on January 4, 1981 as an independent television station on UHF channel 21, first owned by Grant Broadcasting, who would later sign on sister station KTXH (UHF channel 20, now a MyNetworkTV-owned-and-operated station) in Houston a year later. In 1984, both KTXA and KTXH were sold to Gulf Broadcasting, which itself was subsequently purchased by the Cincinnati-based Taft Television and Radio Company that same year. This logo was also used by former sister station WJPR-TV (now WWCW) in Lynchburg, Virginia from 1993 to 1998. The logo design continued to be used until 1989.

1985–1989[]

In September 1993, the station changed its branding to "Paramount 21", as part of the Paramount Stations Group's alignment of its stations under the branding of its namesake film and television studio.

1995–2001[]

KTXA 1995

On January 16, 1995, KTXA became an affiliate of the newly-launched UPN and branded itself as "UPN 21". Viacom purchased CBS in 2000, making channel 21 a sister station to its former rival KTVT, which CBS had purchased from Gaylord Broadcasting the previous year.

In 2002, UPN introduced a new logo and KTXA accordingly received an updated logo.

2006–2012[]

TXA21

In 2006, UPN and rival The WB, which in the Dallas-Fort Worth area was on KDAF, merged to form The CW. As a result of KDAF gaining the CW affiliation, and Fox-owned independent KDFI affiliating with MyNetworkTV, CBS opted to run channel 21 as an independent station, with the current branding "TXA 21" first unveiled on July 4 of that year.
