Kika was founded in 1973 in Sankt Pölten, Austria. It expanded to various other countries over time, such as Hungary in 2000, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2005, Croatia in 2007 and Romania in December 2008. Kika's Hungarian, Czech and Slovakian stores were converted into XXXLutz stores in 2019 and in Romania in 2021.
Kika filed for bankruptcy on June 8, 2023.
