In 1992, [[Kmart]] bought 13 state-owned department stores in Czechoslovakia and turned them into Kmart locations; however, in 1993, Czechoslovakia was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Three years later, all Kmart stores in both countries were sold to [[Tesco]] due to their parent company's financial issues despite the former's operations being profitable.
