In 1997, Super Kmart Center was rebranded to Super Kmart. When Kmart filed for bankruptcy in 2002, a majority of Super Kmart stores closed as a result. Some of them were converted into regular Kmart stores under the name, with the last location in Warren, Ohio, closing in 2018.

Although Super Kmart was regularly discontinued at this time, when Kmart changed its logo in 2004, Super Kmart rebranded into Kmart Supercenter. This logo was only used for printed ads and street signs, while the previous logos were kept on storefronts until the closure of the Warren location in 2018.
