In 1997, Super Kmart Center was rebranded to Super Kmart. When Kmart filed for bankruptcy in 2002, a majority of Super Kmart stores closed as a result. Some of them were converted into regular Kmart stores under the name, with the last location in Warren, Ohio closing in 2018.

Although Super Kmart was regularly discontinued at this time, when Kmart changed its logo in 2004, Super Kmart rebranded into Kmart Supercenter. This branding was really only used for some miscellaneous (such as catalogs and shopping bags), as the previous logos were still used on storefronts until the closure of the Warren location in 2018.
