Kolkata TV is a Bengali-language TV news channel in India. It is named after Kolkata, the capital city of the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. It is one of the oldest 24-hour Bengali news channels, having been launched on 27 March 2006,[1] a year after Star Ananda (now ABP Ananda). Other competitors include Zee 24 Ghanta, News Time Bangla, Calcutta News, News18 Bangla and R Plus.
Associated Broadcasting Company Private Limited, the owner of TV9-branded channels in the country, acquired an 86% stake in the owner of the channel in January 2008. However, the channel was sold in 2009.[2]
