- This article is about the original Kresge store chain which existed from 1899 until 1987. For the parent company of both Kresge's and Kmart founded in 1899, see Kmart Corporation. For the discount store chain that has operated since 1962, see Kmart (United States).
Kresge's (alternatively known as the S.S. Kresge Company) was created in 1899.
The S.S. Kresge Company
During this period, two "S.S. KRESGE CO." logos were used.
Kresge's (second era)
1979–1987 (United States)
The last S.S. Kresge stores were sold off in September 1990.
In 1987, Kmart Corporation sold the Kresge's name to McCrory Stores, as they were focusing more on their growing discount chain, Kmart. All American stores were then closed, though the Canadian chain, known as just Kresge, stayed open until 1994.
