The LaserDisc was an early optical disc that was developed by Philips, MCA and Pioneer and was released in 1978, first under the title "DiscoVision". Pioneer would introduce the LaserDisc and LaserVision names in 1980, LaserVision for the format, and LaserDisc as a brand name. In 2001, mainstream production of LaserDiscs were stopped but players were still being made for the format until 2009.
