2009–2021[]
In 2009, Gillett Evernham Motorsports merged with Petty Enterprises and later Yates Racing, taking the name Richard Petty Motorsports.
Petty GMS Motorsports[]
2022[]
On December 1, 2021, GMS Racing announced that they had acquired a majority stake in Richard Petty Motorsports, leading to its rebrand as Petty GMS Motorsports.
Legacy Motor Club[]
2023–present[]
On November 4, 2022, seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson purchased an ownership stake in Petty GMS, while Richard Petty sold his share of the team to Maury Gallagher at an unknown date. On January 11, the team was rebranded as Legacy Motor Club, marking the first time since 1949 in which the Petty family has not had their name on a race team.
