In October 2019, Liberty announced that it would acquire operations of AT&T in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The deal was finalized on November 2, 2020. In May 2021, Liberty began to integrate AT&T and Liberty as a unified brand; however, this was short lived as the AT&T brand was fully discontinued nearly 5 months later (see below). On September 3, 2021, AT&T customers began to see the Liberty name as their carrier provider on phones, suggesting that the AT&T brand would be nearing discontinuation.
