Raymond Loewy apprentice Donald R. Dohner (1892-1943) and industrial designer J. Gordon Lippincott (1908-1998), two instructors at Pratt Institute, founded Dohner & Lippincott in mid-1943. It was then a subsidiary of Douglas T. Sterling Company, a management consulting firm. Despite Dohner’s sudden death on Christmas Eve of that year, the firm continued to use this name until 1945.
