MTN Group is a South African multinational telecommunications company operating in several countries in Africa and the Middle East, as well as Afghanistan. MTN is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the region, especially since its acquisition of Lebanon-based Investcom in 2006, which operated in the region using the Areeba and Spacetel brands. In its home country, South Africa, it is the second-largest telecom company, after Vodacom and ahead of Cell C and Telkom.
MTN operates using its own brand in most countries. In Botswana it uses the Mascom brand, in Iran it is known as MTN Irancell, and in Liberia it is known as Lonestar Cell–MTN. It also operated in Cyprus until Monaco Telecom acquired it in 2019 and rebranded it to Epic.
