Marcor, Inc. was created as the parent holding company of the newly-merged Container Corporation of America and Montgomery Ward Co. in September 1968. In 1974, Mobil looking to diversify after increased profits from higher gas prices, bought a controlling share of Marcor, only to acquire it for $1.8 billion in 1976. In 1986, Marcor was dissolved after Mobil sold CCA. Montgomery Ward remained as a subsidiary until 1988 before being spun off into its own firm again.
