On April 12, 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced a new name and logo for the merged streaming service for HBO Max and Discovery+, called Max. The HBO branding was dropped from the name as Warner Bros. Discovery wanted to appeal to a larger audience and did not want people to assume that the streaming service was not meant for young audiences. The wordmark pays homage to HBO and Warner Bros., as the lowercase "a" is based on the center-dotted "O" from the premium channel's longtime logo, and the curves of the lowercase "m" and the "x" are based on the shield curves of the iconic Warner Bros. logo. The service was launched in the United States on May 23, 2023. It later launched in Latin America on February 27, 2024, in Europe on May 21, 2024, and in the rest of Europe on June 11.
