This logo was first introduced when McDonald's opened its first Brazilian branch in Rio de Janeiro on February 13, 1979. This logo can still be seen on some older locations.
In 1984, the logo was given a red background and the text became white.
As part of the restaurant chain's first redesign in decades - called 'Forever Young' - the logo was redesigned.
Since 2019, Méqui - a popular nickname for the chain in the country - was officially added as an alternate name, similar to Macca's in Australia, being applied on ads, store facades (as well other nicknames, such as Mecão, Mequinho and Emicidonálds), social media and even as their display name on mobile apps.
