1993–2003[]
McDonald's opened its first Icelandic branch in Reykjavík on September 1, 1993.
2003–2006[]
2006–2009[]
As part of the brand's first redesign in decades called 'Forever Young', the logo was redesigned in 2006. On October 30, 2009, all branches were closed down by its Icelandic affiliate due to both the prohibitive costs of importing foreign food products as required by McDonald's and the collapse of the Icelandic krona. Its former outlets were rebranded to Metro, offering similar services and menus with domestically-produced ingredients.
