1970-1971[]

Lucky Stores, owners of the Gemco membership department store chain in California, opened the first Memco outlets in Maryland and Virginia (just north and south of Washington, D.C.) on August 6, 1970. The difference in name was due to G. E. M., another membership-based chain, already having a presence in the mid-Atlantic.
1971-1972[]

Two additional stores would be opened in Arlington Heights and Niles, Illinois (in the Chicagoland area) on August 17, 1972.
1972-1978[]

Memco's Illinois outlets would be closed and converted to Eagle Family Centers by mid-1977.
1975-1982[]

This logo would be used as an alternate for the previous logo until 1978. Memco entered North Carolina by way of Winston-Salem on April 22, 1980, but would close both of its stores in the state by January 31, 1982.
1982-1983[]

Lucky Stores announced the sale of the remaining Memco outlets, now only in the Baltimore and Richmond areas, to Stop & Shop in December 1982. These locations would be liquidated by the end of March 1983, to be converted into Bradlees stores.
