Mercury Marine 1939 Logo

Mercury Marine was founded in 1939 as Kiekhaefer Mercury. It was named after its founder, Carl Kiekhaefer, and took the name Mercury, as Mercury was a popular car of the time.

1946-1954 []

Kiekhaefer Mercury put more emphasis on the Mercury name in this logo, with a wavy effect that would last until 1964. The shield design was also changed in this logo, and some wings added as well.

Kiekhaefer Mercury added a crown to the logo.

Kiekhaefer Mercury changed the logo radically this time. The crown, shield and wings were all eliminated, in favor of a more simplistic approach. The first K in Kiekhaefer is more stylized. 

1964-1971[]

Kiekhaefer Mercury barely changed the logo over the 1957 logo, only changing how the Mercury part is presented on the logo, as the wavy font is gone in favor a simpler font design. The oval also became smaller as well.  

1971-1973[]

The Mercury name has more emphasis in this logo, and the Kiekhaefer name is less significant. This is the last logo to feature the Kiekhaefer name,as he left the company in the late 60s-early 70s.

The Kiekhaefer name has been removed, and the name has been changed to Mercury Marine. 

1978-1999[]

Mercury Marine went to this simpler design, and kept it up till 1999. 

1999-2012[]

Mercury changed the logo, for a new identity going into the new millenium. The word marine, and the font now has a slant to it with a wave crashing into the M. This logo was used on owners manual up to the 2013 model year run.

2013-Present[]

Mercury Marine

The signature red Mercury is gone. The wave "M" is retained, but it has turned into an icon. This logo was put into use on all service manuals for 2013.
