Merthyr Town was originally founded in 1908.
1912-1934[]
After their promotion to the Southern League First division, the club added the Prince of Wales' feathers to their kits.
Merthyr Town folded in 1934, and the town did not have a football club for 11 years.

Merthyr Tydfil was formed in 1945 as a replacement to Merthyr Town.

The club was liquidated in 2010. A new club, the new Merthyr Town, soon began play.
Merthyr Town (second era)[]
2010-2014[]
Merthyr Town was reformed in 2010, using the same logo as their predecessor, Merthyr Tydfil.
2012-2016[]
In 2012, Merthyr Town adopted a logo based on their 1990s logos.
2016-present[]
The club adopted a new logo in 2016, replacing the logo based on the town's emblem with a stylized version of St. Tydfil.
