This logo, designed by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student Tom Meindel, was the winning entry of a $2,000 contest held by the organization. It first saw use at the beginning of the 1978 season.

Before this logo was introduced, a 25th anniversary insignia for the Milwaukee Brewers was unveiled on September 17, 1993, which contained many of the same design elements (namely the diamond, bats, and color scheme). Despite no word from the MLB, local press speculated this was a hint toward an upcoming update of the team's uniform and logo. On January 13, 1994, this logo was unveiled through local news outlets, with a ceremony to unveil new uniforms held at the MECCA Convention Venter two days later.

On March 7, 2018, the Brewers updated their primary logo with the 2000-2017 alternate logo.

On November 19, 2019, the "ball in glove" logo returned, albeit with a slight difference in design and a darker shade of blue than the original.
