In 1875, as Mitsubishi expanded into manufacturing aircraft, the basic form of the three diamonds was introduced as a propeller. The Mitsubishi symbol was derived from the family crests of the Iwasaki (the family of founder Yataro Iwasaki, three diamonds) and Yamauchi (rulers of Yataro's birthplace and his employers, position of the diamonds) families.

Mitsubishi debut this logo in 1931 for it's Mazda brand made by Toyo Kogyo. It discontinued in 1934 however. By 1953, it revived it's logo as of today.
