Designer:  Noboru Kono of Landor Associates
Typography:  Custom
Launched:  1981

In 1981, Mizuno unveiled a new more futuristic logo as part of becoming a more modern and global sporting goods company. Prior to this, and also when the logo was launched, the company used an "M" on the sides of shoes which was deemed similar to Adidas' three stripes. As a result, in 1982, one year after the logo was created, the Runbird, an abstract depiction of a roadrunner, was created as the new company symbol and logo on shoes. The company also used the "M" from the wordmark on certain products like baseball gloves and golf clubs.
