The championship was relaunched as MotoGP to signify the start of the four-stroke engine era. The logo was relatively straightforward - being a representation of the checkered flag.

In 2007, MotoGP modified its 2002 logo, with some squares being rounded (to reflect the first awarding of the current Tower of Champions trophy that same year), and the "MotoGP" typeface changed from Impact to a custom one, with "GP" now uppercase. With 16 years of use, this is the longest-serving logo of the four-stroke era.
