Mozilla was founded on February 28, 1998, in order to facilitate open-source development of Netscape Communicator's source code. The name Mozilla comes from the work-in-progress name for Netscape Browser, which was a combination of words Mosaic and Godzilla.[1] Around June 5th, 2002, version 1.0 of their application suite, then simply named Mozilla, was released for Linux (including Red Hat .rpm packages), HP-UX, Tru64 Unix, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS (both OS X and Classic Mac OS), OS/2, Solaris, OpenVMS, BeOS, and FreeBSD. This logo would continue to be used after the introduction of the next logo, in the splash screen for the Mozilla application suite until it's discontinuation in 2005
