In 2020, the owner of Mrs. Butterworth's, Conagra Brands, announced that it would review the shape of their bottles as African-American people viewed them as an example of the "mammy" stereotype. Also, some reports have indicated that the character was originally modelled on "Mammy" from Gone with the Wind. However, no changes were made in the end.
