Muzzik was created in November 1995, but did not launch until February 19, 1996. It was owned by Groupe MCM (now known as Lagardère) and broadcasted world, jazz, and classical music, among others, including four daily fixed programs. The logo, whose second "Z" represents a cuckoo, was drawn by fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Its visual identity was supplemented with music by Malcom McLaren, keeping with Castelbajac’s vision to make the channel "broadcast with harmony".
Muzzik merged with Mezzo on April 12, 2002 at 12:42 (GMT +1) while keeping the latter's name, adding jazz to Mezzo’s lineup.
