This logo with the "flared" tips at the top left and right hand sides was last used on the field at Super Bowl XVIII in January 1984.

1984–2007[]

NFL 1983

The tips at the top left and right sides of the logo became unflared, and the blue outline at the bottom became thicker.

2008–present[]

NFL

In 2008, the NFL modified their logo by reducing the number of stars from 25 to 8; the stars now represent the eight divisions, and are separated to the right and left to represent the two conferences. Additionally, the typeface and shield were modified, and the football on top was changed for the first time to a more dimensional look, resembling that of the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
