Toll house-1940

The Toll House brand first appeared in 1939 on the wrappers of Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate bars. The name came from the Toll House Inn, a restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts where the original recipe for chocolate-chip cookies was created a few years prior. Nestlé was allowed to print the recipe on its wrappers, and it soon gained nationwide fame in the U.S. At first, the chocolate bars had to be manually cut into small pieces to make the cookies, but Nestlé soon began marketing pre-packaged chocolate "morsels" (chips).
