News9 is an Indian English-language news channel covering the southern Indian state of Karnataka, and specifically its capital city of Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). It is owned by Associated Broadcasting Company Private Limited, which also runs TV9 Kannada in Karnataka. It was launched on 9 January 2009 along with TV9 Mumbai, which has since been renamed to TV9 Marathi.[1]
Other Indian English news channels with metropolitan-specific news coverage have shut down (in particular NDTV MetroNation, which covered the national capital of Delhi, and NDTV Hindu, which covered Chennai, another large South Indian city). Moreover, TV9's own TV9 Mumbai, which showed local city news in Hindi, was converted to the Marathi-language TV9 Marathi in 2012.
