The original incarnation of News Corporation was an American (and until 2004, Australian) multinational mass media corporation operated and owned by media mogul, Rupert Murdoch. Its headquarters were located in New York City and (until 2004) Adelaide, South Australia.

1980–2013[]

The company was created in 1980 as a holding company for News Limited (now News Corp Australia). In 2004, the company was reincorporated in the United States, which led to the buyout of partially-controlled Fox Entertainment Group a year later.

On June 28, 2013, News Corporation split into the new conglomerates; 21st Century Fox (defunct as of 2019) and the present-day News Corp.

As a result of the station's move to Detroit, WFRO in the Toledo market as well as another station in Northern Michigan (also on 900) were taken off the air to allow WFDF to increase its broadcast power.
