This logo was short-lived, having been used in the programme for only a month. The Channel 5 logo beside the blue 'N' was also different from the watermark during programmes, with the '5' logo being shifted to the right slightly from its blue rectangle.

In May of 2001, the intro logo was modified to revert the news programme to its 2000 name, displaying as 'News 5 Tonight', instead of 'N5 Tonight', but the intro overall remained the same.

In June 2003, the intro was modified again, reducing visual effects on the logo, turning the background to a darker blue and black colour.

In end-2003, the News 5 Tonight intro received a major revamp, turning the background to a turquoise-dark cyan-blue logo. the Channel 5 logo was also made the same as the one used in 2001 to 2005.

Being the longest-used intro, with a usage period of 9 years and 7 months, it used a remix of the Channel 5 news theme from 1980.

In end 2014, the intro revamped, and the News 5 Tonight programme name simplified to just 'News 5'. The Channel 5 logo for the news programme was the same as the Channel 5 watermark, albeit without the blue rectangle that was part of the channel's logo.
