In 1980, NBN purchased Southern Television Corporation. In exchange for a majority stake in NBN, NWS-9 was sold to the Lamb family in 1982. In 1999, the Lamb family sell NWS-9 to Southern Cross Broadcasting, leading to redundancies among almost half the station's staff.

On 30 May 2007, Southern Cross Broadcasting announced the sale of NWS to WIN Corporation, with WIN taking control on 1 July.
