The Nine Network's high definition simulcast was relaunched with its own branding as Nine HD. From Nine HD's launch until 2009, it featured unique breakaway programming separate from Nine's main channel. Nine HD was later launched by Nine-owned affiliate NBN Television as "NBN HD" in mid-2008.

In 2009, Nine HD was reverted to a high definition simulcast of Nine's main channel until it was closed in 2010 and replaced by GEM. During this period, its unique branding was minimised, reflecting its pre-2008 branding. In NBN's case, the HD branding was removed completely.

It was later revived by Nine-owned affiliate NBN Television on 1 March 2016 with the Nine HD logo featuring a small "NBN" written underneath the HD branding. NBN later changed to the mainstream logo used by Nine within 5 months later.
