On 1 April 2023, NGK Spark Plug Co., Ltd. changed its English legal name to Niterra Co., Ltd., thus leading to recognized the company as Niterra. The new name derived from the Latin word "niteo" that means "shine", and from the word "terra" which means "earth". Despite the name change, both NGK and NTK remain exist as the company's consumer brands.
