In 1976, the zoo acquired a female Pacific talking walrus which Hagenbeck named Antje after his sister. Antje became the logo of the North German television network NDR from 1983 to 1996. In 2003, Antje died and is now stuffed and on display at the zoological museum of Hamburg.
