On April 15, 2019, the roof of the cathedral caught fire and continued to burn for 15 hours causing serious damage. Since the fire, the Notre-Dame has remained closed for reconstruction and renovations.

A new logo for the building was revealed in 2023. The cathedral was expected to be reopened to the public by Spring 2024, in time for the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics, but this was ultimately delayed and the cathedral was officially reopened on December 7, 2024.
