OCLC was founded on July 6, 1967 as a nonprofit consortium of Ohio academic libraries seeking to share bibliographic information by computer. This logo was used on an interim basis on the cover of the organization's inaugural newsletter[1].
1968–1981[]
A logo consisting of a stylized punch card made its first appearance on letterheads and publications by June 1968[2].
In 1981, OCLC dispensed with the obsolete punch card imagery in favor of a redesigned identity created by Landor Associates[4]. To reflect its expansion to libraries worldwide, the full name of the organization was retitled "OCLC Online Computer Library Center." These changes also coincided with OCLC relocating its headquarters from Columbus to Dublin, Ohio, where it remains based today.
