On August 25, 2020, Oculus as a company was absorbed into Facebook Reality Labs.

On October 28, 2021, Facebook Inc., the company that owns Oculus, changed its name to Meta. That same day, Oculus was announced to be also changing its name to Meta in 2022, getting rid of the nearly decade-old name. All of Oculus' social media accounts switched to Meta Quest. The Oculus icon is still being used for Meta Quest promotional material, and controllers, and the Oculus name, along with the icon, is still being used for the Oculus Studios brand.
