Corus Entertainment announced on June 7, 2024 that all of their lifestyle and factual content agreements with Warner Bros. Discovery would not be renewed after they expire on December 31, 2024. Rogers Sports & Media announced three days later that they would become the Canadian broadcaster for those brands as of January 2025.

Corus initially said that it would continue to operate the affected channels with their existing Canadian content, but with new names and "alternate foreign content supply". However, later that month, Rogers Communications announced on their website on June 25, 2024 that OWN would be shut down on September 1, 2024. This statement was not yet corroborated by Corus until July 15, 2024, when they said that while OWN, Cooking Channel, and Magnolia Network would be shut down entirely, the latter two channels' parent networks Food Network and HGTV are expected to be rebranded as of December 30, 2024.

OWN's website officially switched to a slate on August 13, 2024, officially confirming the shutdown. The website was eventually decommissioned on August 30, redirecting to the official Oprah Winfrey website. The channel's broadcast license was surrendered to the CRTC on October 8, 2024.
