Launched in 1998 as Mobinil and renamed in 2016, Orange is the oldest mobile network in Egypt and the second-largest by subscribers, after Vodafone and ahead of Etisalat. It is almost completely owned by Orange S.A., the French telecom conglomerate.

Mobinil was renamed to Orange in March 2016, in a similar fashion as Mobistar in Belgium and Méditel in Morocco.
