The above prototypes were showcased in a 1982 interview with Herb Lubalin in an episode of Media Probes when asked about the creative process which led to the final design.

  1. The Star-Spangled Banner color-scheme was rejected because of the political context at the time. The conservative Nixon government had already terminated NET as a network, and PBS was concerned that a red left-facing P-head would be seen as a pro-Communist signal if it had been permitted.
