Anticipating the impending breakup of the Bell System, Pacific Telephone unveiled the new Pacific Bell identity on August 8, 1983, alongside that of its newly-formed holding company Pacific Telesis and sister operation Nevada Bell. It first went into use at the beginning of 1984.
